Why College Students Uses Textbooks over iPad ?

In recent times Apple company released it's new Apple iPad and with that Apple also announced that Apple iPad has led many to herald it as the future for textbooks. But as per the new research students continue to prefer textbooks over iPad.

Big and heavy textbooks all upon one intelligent small & lightweight device with search function, video clips, interactive quizzes and web browsing. It's look like now dreams for student become some what true ? But that's not thought of the students that all are thought of the biggest publishers like Pearson and McGraw-Hill and they also not busy for preparing their thousands of books which having titles ready for iPad's release.


Bookboon.com which is the world's largest one book publisher of free textbook had done one research on students thought about using books and iPad. And for this research they directly contacted it's 3000 fans of facebook and ask one simple question : "Would you actually want to read your textbooks on an iPad?”. And you not believe about the answer come it may really shock you.

Edward A Blake, Marketing Manager for the company’s U.S and U.K operations said "The response came really shock one". And he also added "At first look Apple iPad looks like real harmful for publishing industry and we all were expecting 99% positive response, but students answer were in remaining 1% and all students answer came with negative feedback about using iPad for studying with some strong arguments".

And response having the most complaint was well summed up by one responded; “It’s one thing to read the latest Dan Brown novel on an iPad for half an hour in bed, but it’s quite another to read ‘Econometric Analysis’ for eight hours straight in the library”. On Bookbon.com other negative response comments such as :"50% of my reading list contain PDF only but then also I using print of PDF for reading purpose because it's easy to concentrate and take notes from printed version" and " my most of exams are open book test in which book can be allowed not any electronics device be allowed for exam, then why I use such type of electronics equipment" .

And at least not this much one student of UCLA said ," Leave an iPod, eReader or any laptop lying around in my campus library and it will soon get stolen. I can leave my ‘Corporate Finance’ Textbook for hours though without anyone even touching it"

  1. it's easier to take notes and make references to read stuff in a text book than an electronic device.
